OL R.J. Mattes Profile

6-6, 260 pound star lineman R.J. Mattes helped Jay Robinson High (N.C.) win a high scoring battle this week.

"We won a close one this week," he said. "It was 42-35. There were five touchdowns scored in the last few minutes of the game."

The prize recruit had planned to travel to Raleigh to watch two of his favorites on Saturday.

"I couldn't make it. I had to go in early for school yesterday. I was hoping I could make it, but I couldn't," said Mattes. "But I watched the game. Clemson looks real good on offense. They look like one of the best teams in the ACC. Virginia has also looked good."

A week earlier Mattes was able to watch two of his other top schools.

"I went to the North Carolina game against Virginia last week. They scored a touchdown late but couldn't get the two point conversion. It was a good game to see with two of my top five playing," said Mattes.

"I am still planning to wait and make my decision after I take my five official visits."

The official visit tour for Mattes begins this weekend.

"I am going to Virginia this weekend. I am going to Clemson in December or January. I am going to North Carolina on December 1. I am still working on setting up South Carolina and North Carolina State," said Mattes.

Jay Robinson will find out how good they are this week. "We have Vance this week. This is a bigtime game. They are a real good team. This would be a big win for us," said Mattes.
