On the Record: Aaron Kelly

CLEMSON - CUTigers.com sat down with wide receiver Aaron Kelly earlier this week to get his thoughts on the first half of the season and Saturday's game against Central Michigan.

Redshirt junior wide receiver Aaron Kelly enters Saturday's game against Central Michigan second in the ACC in catches per game with 6.5 and first in the league in yards/game with 86.

It's safe to say after a disappointing sophomore year, Kelly has rebounded to become one of the top receivers in the league.

CUTigers.com spoke with Kelly earlier this week to get his thoughts on the season and more in another edition of On the Record:

Aaron talk a little bit about Central Michigan. I saw where they picked off five passes in their last game. What do you know about the Chippewas?
Kelly: I know they won 10 games last year. They've got some experience and they are coming off their best game. They turned them over six times last game. So we have to be careful with the ball and not make mistakes. We need to get out early too because we know these guys have some confidence. We don't want to let them build on that.

What do you guys need to do to get back in this thing in the ACC?
Kelly: Well we have to start to winning first of all. We've got to win some games. We have to get back to the type of football we were playing at the beginning of the year and get some confidence back. We've had two weeks of tough practices just to get us ready for this stretch run. The bye came at a good time to help us assess where we are at. Now we want to make a run at trying to get a championship.

You've been on some teams that have turned things around before and certainly this program is no stranger in doing just that. That does give you added confidence that this team can get the job done and compete for an ACC Championship this year?
Kelly: It does. It's something we can look to. But with the character of this team and our background, we don't want to go down the road we went down last year. That's the biggest thing.

You guys are just 4-2, you've been in worse spots before. Do you think the sometimes the fans may be a little too hard on the program considering you've still got half a season to play and most of your goals still out there?
Kelly: I think the fans have high expectations just like we do. We expect to win. We expect to win every game. There's a reason those expectations are there and it's because this program has done some incredible things in the past. We embrace that to be honest. I look at it as a positive.

You've really been one of the bright spots of the offense this year. Talk about your development and some of the reasons why you've increased your production like you have.
Kelly: I've done pretty good this year. It's been a byproduct of us passing the ball more. I'm trying to do the most of the opportunities I'm given and so far it's working out well.
