GRADES: Tigers Pound Deacs

CLEMSON – Following every game, each phase of the Clemson football team will be given a letter grade. Here are this week's grades following the 20th-ranked Tigers' 44-10 win over Wake Forest Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

OFFENSE: A The only reason this isn't an A+ is because the Tigers struggled to run the ball. Whenever James Davis has 21 rushes for only 62 yards, that's a problem. But with the way quarterback Cullen Harper has played all season, Clemson can overcome those problems, like it did today. And, boy, did the Tigers ever overcome those problems by scoring on 8-of-10 possessions.

DEFENSE: A+ The defense looked unstoppable today. It harassed quarterback Riley Skinner all game and wound up getting five sacks and forcing a turnover. Wake Forest had no answer for the Tigers, which played their best defense of the year. When the front four is getting pressure like it did, there's very little the opposition can do to score.

SPECIAL TEAMS: A- What has happened to the Clemson special teams that we all know and hate? Once again, this area was truly special as three field goals were made from beyond 43 yards, including one from 52, and a touchdown was scored off a 90-yard kickoff return. The only down side was a very long punt return by Wake Forest and a kickoff return that went for a touchdown that was called back due to holding.

COACHING: A It was easy to get the team up for a game like this, especially after Florida State beat Boston College Saturday night. The Tigers were prepared and fired up. But the big test will come next week.

OVERALL: A There wasn't one phase that had any major hiccups as the Tigers took control of the game from the outset. Bowden said it might have been his team's best all-around performance of the season. But that will mean nothing if they can't do it again next week. Top Stories
