We were delighted to get a win this past Saturday against Duke. I think they played really well and beat us up one side and down the other side. We were very fortunate to go into halftime with a little bit of a lead. I was very impressed with Duke's football team, they competed really hard. I thought our kids played better in the second half and we were fortunate to get a couple of turnovers. It was a hard fight and we are just lucky to come out with a win.
|The Deacons have developed the reputation as road warriors during Jim Grobe's tenure at Wake Forest. Last year, Grobe led the Deacons to a 4-1 record on the road, including a 3-1 conference mark. This year, Wake Forest has toppled both Georgia Tech and Purdue on their home turf.|
We are a work in progess. I don't think we are really where we need to be, especially depth wise. I think we've got some talent, I don't think we are without talent but we just don't have a lot of depth, and that's hurt us in a couple of games this year. I don't know that we are ever going to be on the same plane as a Florida State or Clemson, or some of the schools in the ACC. But I think we can develop a pretty good football team. We've had our moments offensively and defensively and in the kicking game we are starting to improve.
Grobe on What a Win Over Clemson Would Mean
From just a confidence standpoint a win over Clemson would be huge for our football program. We've not had very much of success in Death Valley. Of course, I don't think a lot of teams have had success in Death Valley. I think if we were to go down and play well and have a chance to win against a real fine Clemson team, there's no doubt it would not only help us from a confidence standpoint, in the future it could also help you in a lot of ways.
Grobe On the Depth at Running Back
We've got great competition at that spot. All four of our guys want more reps. They all want as many reps as they can get. The thing that we've told them is that your reps next week is based on your production this week. If you produce, you'll get more carries. That's developed into a real healthy atmosphere. Our kids know every Saturday the amount of playing time they get is going to depend on their peformance.
