WR Marquan Jones Profile
In a recent interview with CUTigers.com, Clemson verbal commitment Marquan Jones said he still is planning to enroll at Clemson in January.
"I still plan to enroll early," he said. "I am going to Clemson for my official visit on January 11. I will start school the next Monday.
"I just kind of want to get a feel for of the system. I want to get use to the college atmosphere. I am not sure what I want to major in yet. Then comes football."
How does Jones feel as his high school days wind down?
"I am just trying to stay focused so I can finish. There is not pressure. I am just going to finish strong. I am confident," replied Jones.
Clemson assistant coach Brad Scott visited with Jones earlier this week.
"Coach Scott came by to see my Tuesday. We just talked about what I need to do to get things ready for Clemson," said Jones.
Has Jones been working hard to recruit others to Clemson?
"I haven't talked to a lot of the other prospects. I saw Spencer (Adams) at the Boston College game. I saw DaQuan and we said we would do big things together," replied Jones.
The talented receiver will get a chance to play with some of his future Clemson teammates next week when he plays for the Sandlappers in the Shrine Bowl.
"I am looking forward to the Shrine Bowl. I will enjoy getting to play with some of my future teammates. I look forward to seeing how they play," said Jones.
It has been along time since Jones has lost a game. Jones helped lead Blythewood to an undefeated season that ended too soon as probation kept them from the playoffs. He played his last game for the Bengals way back on Oct. 25, when he caught 13 passes for 190 yards and three touchdowns in a 36-6 win over Eau Claire.
"It was tough. Life was tough. We have to move on. I just focused on becoming a better person and getting ready for the Shrine Bowl," said Jones.
What are Jones' goals for his first year at Clemson?
"I just want to help bring the team to another level. I want to step in and help the team the best I can. I just want to work hard and help my team win games," replied Jones.
The Shrine Bowl standout believes the Tigers are a team on the rise.
"The win against South Carolina was impressive. I read that Tommy will get a contract extension so that is good news. Cullen will be back for another year. I look forward to playing with him and playing with Willy one day," said Jones.
Jones is also working hard to convince his teammate Justin Anderson to join him at Clemson. Anderson is one of the top juniors in the Palmetto state.
"I told him he needs to come to Clemson. He wants to get more confidence in his speed so I am going to work with him on that. Of course we want him up there. He will be a great player," said Jones.
