DE Impressed with Bowden, Clemson checks in with one of the top defensive ends in the south for the class of 2009 after he took an official visit to Clemson earlier this month.

DE Sam Montgomery Profile

6-4, 220 pound defensive end Sam Montgomery out of Greenwood visited Clemson the weekend before National Signing Day.

"It was a pretty good visit" he said. "I came up with my mom and my sister. I also brought a few other family members and a friend."

What did the top junior enjoy about his visit to Tigertown?

"Clemson has a nice campus. They have very good people and they have a very, very good academic program," replied Montgomery.

Several Clemson coaches talked with the talented defender during the visit.

"I talked to a couple of the coaches. I got a chance to talk with coach Bowden, coach Vic and coach West. They basically told me they plan on recruiting one bandit this year and I'm their man. They said a lot of positive things about me coming to Clemson," said Montgomery.

The Greenwood standout already has a very impressive offer list.

"I have five offers right now. I have offers from South Carolina, Clemson, North Carolina State, North Carolina and Alabama," said Montgomery.

When asked about his current favorite, Montgomery responded, "Well basically I can't say since I've only visited Clemson. As far as Clemson it is a great program. I want to see more places before I decide."

A visit to Columbia is next on the visit tour for the prize recruit.

"This weekend I am going to see South Carolina. I want to take care of the in-state schools first. Then I will probably go to North Carolina. Then I will take some official visits to some of the schools that are further away," said Montgomery.

Don't expect an early commitment from the Palmetto state standout.

"I think I will make my decision later on next year. It will probably be near the end of next year. I want to take a lot more visits. I want to show a lot more people the respect for giving me a full scholarship," said Montgomery.

As a junior Montgomery recorded 65 total tackles including 15 sacks and a forced fumble. Top Stories
