Top NC LB Waits on Clemson Offer

Clemson assistant coach Billy Napier and the Clemson Tigers pulled a gem from Butler High last year in four-star safety Spencer Adams. The Tigers are once again looking at a top prospect from one of North Carolina's top high school programs. has the latest.

6-0, 225 pound two-way standout Hawatha Bell already has an impressive offer list.

"I am hearing from a lot of schools," he told in a recent interview. "I have offers from Miami, Illinois, Maryland, East Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Wake Forest. I am hearing from Clemson, but they have not offered yet."

The top junior is taking visits to several of his early schools of interest.

"I went to South Carolina. I just got back from Wake Forest. I might be going to East Carolina this week," said Bell.

What will be important to the prize recruit when he selects a school?

"As of right now the main schools are Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Clemson. I have former teammates at those schools. I will also look at academics, and I am looking for a good winning program," replied Bell.

Three former teammates are keeping Bell informed about their colleges of choice.

"Spencer is my cousin. He lets me know what is going on at Clemson. He lets me know they want me to come there. Eddie lets me know what is going on at Virginia Tech. Ryan Houston and I talk some on Myspace about what is going on at Carolina," said Bell.

The talented athlete hopes the Tigers will come through with an offer and an invite for junior day.

"I am hoping Clemson will offer. I am waiting to hear about their junior day. I hope they will tell me to come on down for a visit," said Bell.

The two-way standout plays running back and linebacker for Butler.

"Hopefully I will get a chance to play fullback and linebacker in college," said Bell.

The decision timing is not clear at this time for the North Carolina standout.

"I want to wait and see which offers come along. If I have to make an early decision I will," said Bell.

When asked about his current favorites, Bell responded, "Right now Virginia Tech and South Carolina are the schools I'm looking at the most. I want to wait and see which other offers come along. I'd like to get one from Clemson." Top Stories
