Malliciah Goodman, one of the top defensive ends in South Carolina for the class of 2009, has verbally committed to Clemson University, CUTigers.com has learned.

"I just called 10 minutes ago and told them I committed," Goodman told CUTigers.com. "I called coach Swinney. He was at dinner with his wife so I called coach Napier.

"My main reason in committing was my relationship with the coaches. They treat you like family at Clemson. Plus I like the town and the campus. It really is a great place."

As a junior, Goodman (6-4, 240) recorded 75 tackles and 6.5 sacks and one blocked punt.

Goodman, who was officially offered a scholarship by the Tigers within the last 10 days, said he was ready to get the recruiting process over with early.

"I just wanted to go ahead and do it," he said. "I was sure it was going to be my decision now and my decision later so I went ahead and did it."

Goodman also attended Clemson's junior day event Saturday and also held a scholarship offer from South Carolina.

Alabama and Virginia were also showing early interest in the standout defensive end.

Goodman also wants to be clear that his verbal commitment is indeed firm.

"It may be verbal but I'm not changing my mind," he added. "I won't be changing this commitment."
