SC DB Checks Out Clemson

The Clemson Tigers opened up their 2008 Spring Practice on this past Saturday, and quite a few recruits were on hand.

One particular prospect that was spotted in the crowed was Greenwood High standout D.J. Swearinger.

"I went up to Clemson on Saturday for their first day of spring practice," Swearinger said. "They were just getting everything started. I liked how the players were out there talking noise to each other (laughing)… I also had a chance to talk with Coach Vic Koenning. I had a pretty nice time up there."

The Tigers along with several other programs have been expressing interest in the talented safety. In fact, the 6-0, 190 pound athlete is currently holding two scholarship offers from Vanderbilt and Illinois, respectively.

According to Swearinger, a few other programs may be close to throwing their hats into the ring… "Coach Al Groh from Virginia called my head coach and told him that they're really close to offering me," D.J. said. "I really feel like Penn State and Maryland will offer soon also. All of them have seen my film and really liked what they saw."

Swearinger has been busy putting together a very hectic off-season schedule lately. The two-way star will be hitting the road hard and heavy over the next few weeks.

"I'll probably be going to a 5-star academy on the 15th," D.J. said. "After that I'm going to the Nike Combine on the 22nd, and then I'll be heading up to N.C. State on the 29th for one of their spring practices."

Last year on defense, Swearinger registered 93 tackles, one interception, two blocked punts and two blocked field goals for Greenwood. On the offensive side of the ball, he rushed for over 500 yards and eight scores.
