Great Things Come in Small Packages

Jonathan Davis, four-star linebacker from Tucker, (Ga.), is one of the best football players in the Southeast. Davis measures at a mere 5-foot-8, 190-pounds, but his speed, tackling ability and determination have college coaches knocking on his door.

"I have four offers right now," said Jonathan Davis. "I have offers from UAB, UCF, Mississippi State and Clemson. I really don't know who else is close to offering me. I haven't heard from that many schools.

"I attended Florida's Junior Day a few weeks ago. I plan on going down to UCF April 5. I don't have any other visits scheduled at this time."

Davis shared a little more insight about the visit to Gainesville and his interest in the Gators.

"The visit to Florida went well," he said. "I liked their facilities. It was really nice down there. I spoke to the coaches. They said they didn't know which position I would play if they offered me. They didn't know if I would play linebacker or safety."

"I like their whole atmosphere. It is a football nation down there. They treat everyone with respect. The coaches are great people. They are down to earth."

Davis is not naming any favorites, but he has interest in receiving an offer from at least one other SEC school.

"I really don't have a top five or anything, but I would love to receive an offer from Alabama. I love coach Nick Saban. I love his demeanor about football. He comes to win. I would love to go to school there."

Davis recorded over 1,000 yards rushing and had 125 tackles on defense during his junior year. He was named All-State and Class 4A Defensive Player of the Year.

"I feel like my strengths are getting to the ball and my speed," he said. "I am trying to improve my coverage skills. I know there is a chance I may have to play strong safety in college."

You hear about players all the time who would receive plenty of offers if they were a little bit taller. Buster Davis and Thomas Davis are two NFL linebackers under 6-foot. All-Pro safety Bob Sanders stands 5-foot-8, 205-pounds.

"I can't control my height," Davis explained. "Two things I can control are my speed and strength. I am going to work hard to improve those two areas. This is the way God made me."

Davis will have plenty of options before it's all said and done. He is an excellent student with a 3.0 GPA and will excel at the next level.

"I am going to base my decision on whatever is best for my family," Davis stated. "I am also going to look at how many people the school graduates." Top Stories
