Four-star wide receiver Stephon Gilmore is one of the top athletes in South Carolina for the class of 2009.

A versatile player who also excels on the basketball court, Gilmore could play on either side of the ball on the gridiron at the next level. Clemson is recruiting him as a cornerback, while Michigan has said they want him as a quarterback to run Rich Rodiguez's spread offense.

Other schools like him as a wide receiver.

Regardless of what position he plays, it stands to reason the battle for Gilmore's services will likely be focused on two schools - South Carolina and Clemson.

Gilmore did not run the 40-yard dash on Saturday, but he did participate in various one-on-one drills and defensive back work outs. He checked in at 6-1, 186 pounds. caught up with the four-star athlete at Saturday's Combine, and here is what he had to say.

If you had to name a top school right now between Clemson and South Carolina who would it be?
Gilmore: I really don't want to say the top school.

What position are those two schools recruiting you to play?
Gilmore: Clemson is recruiting me as a boundary corner and they will let me play a little bit of offense. South Carolina is recruiting me as a wide receiver/defensive back. They want me to be on special teams and stuff like that.

Michigan is also showing a lot of interest. They want you as a quarterback, right?
Gilmore: Michigan wants me as a quarterback because the spread offense they run we ran this year. That is what they want me to play.

Which position do you want to play in college?
Gilmore: I haven't made my mind up yet. I still have time.

I expect you will continue to play both ways this year. What are your expectations for you senior year at South Pointe?
Gilmore: This year I am going to get to play more defensive back. I will still be at quarterback. I will play a little bit more special teams. We should be pretty good this year. We should win the state.

What will be important for you when you make a decision?
Gilmore: I am looking for good coaches and somewhere that my mom can get to that is not too far away. That is probably about it.

Talk about your two main recruiters for Clemson and South Carolina.
Gilmore: Coach Napier is my recruiting coordinator for Clemson. He is cool guy. He writes me every week. We talk probably every week. Coach Cooper called me the other day. He is a good coach too.

Do you feel a lot of pressure to go to one of the in-state schools?
Gilmore: Yeah, some want me to go to Clemson and some want me to go to South Carolina, but I am going to go to a school that I want to go.
