Updated SC Top 20: 1-10

CUTigers.com presents an updated list of the top 20 prospects in South Carolina for the class of 2009.

# PLAYER POS CITY WT/HT COMMIT
1 Sam Montgomery DE Greenwood 6-5/240
NOTES: Montgomery has emerged as the state's top player and has a list of offers to prove it. Clemson is in great shape, but the Greenwood standout has said on more than one occasion he wants to visit several out of state schools including LSU, Florida and Southern California. Montgomery has also been selected to play in the Under Armour All-American Game next January. He recorded 65 tackles and 15 sacks last season. His main recruiter to Clemson is assistant coach Ron West.

2 Chris Bonds DE Richland Northeast 6-4/275
NOTES: Bonds is checking out all of his options when it comes to recruiting, but Clemson will not be one. Alabama, Southern California, Michigan and South Carolina are his current top schools. Tore his ACL during his junior season but should make a full recovery. He participated in several drills at the Scout.com/Under-Armour Combine on Saturday in Charlotte but left early after his knee started bothering him.

3 Damario Jeffrey LB Columbia 6-4/195
NOTES: Jeffrey moved up a spot in our latest state rankings and could be the top player overall before it's all said and done. A powerful linebacker prospect (currently No. 7 WLB in the nation), he's being pursued by a handful of traditional powers. Clemson is squarely in the mix and is pursuing at fullspeed behind the efforts of defensive line coach Chris Rumph. South Carolina and Alabama are also in hot pursuit.

4 J.K. Jay OT Christ Church 6-7/275 CU
NOTES: Jay is one of the top linemen in the south and has been committed to Clemson since the spring game in 2007. He's also been Clemson's ace recruiter, calling weekly on some of the top prospects on the board. In fact, recent Clemson commitment Devonte Holloman specifically mentioned his relationship with Jay as a reason he went ahead and committed early. Jay will also be playing in the Under Armour All-American Game next January.

5 Malliciah Goodman DE West Florence 6-4/242 CU
NOTES: Another Clemson commitment, Goodman is moving up Scout.com's rankings faster than any prospect in the south after a strong performance at the Scout.com/Under-Armour Combine Saturday in Charlotte. (4.53 in the 40-yard dash). He chose the Tigers over an offer from South Carolina and remains firm in his pledge. Dabo Swinney is is the recruiter of record here.

6 Alshon Jeffrey WR Calhoun County 6-4/200
NOTES: Jeffrey is the top offensive skill player in the state this year and also is a standout basketball player. South Carolina, Southern California, Alabama and Clemson are all in the mix for his services after a junior season that saw him haul in 32 passes for over 900 yards and 14 touchdowns. Clemson's Chris Rumph is recruiting for the Tigers.

7 Stephon Gilmore WR South Pointe 6-1/175
NOTES: Currently ranked the No. 35 wide receiver in the nation by Scout.com, Gilmore is likely a cornerback at the next level even though Michigan wants him as a quarterback. The Tigers are in good shape, especially after Holloman, Gilmore's good friend, committed earlier this week. The South Pointe standout will be playing in the Under Armour All-American Game next January. Clemson recruiting coordinator Billy Napier is leading the way for the Tigers.

8 Brandon Thomas OL Dorman 6-4/279
NOTES: After turning in a 4.69 40-yard dash Saturday at the Scout.com/Under-Armour Combine, Thomas made the quick jump into our latest top 10. Clemson's Billy Napier is his main recruiter to Tigertown and could have a verbal commitment wrapped up before the start of the 2008 season.

9 Duane Chisolm DT Beaufort 6-2/250
NOTES: Recorded over 100 tackles and 15 sacks last season. South Carolina was thought to have the early edge here however the Tigers have a reasonable chance after moving in with an offer last Friday. Clemson assistant coach Ron West is Chisolm's main recruiter.

10 Quinten Washington OG Timberland 6-4/322
NOTES: Clemson and South Carolina are battling it out for the Palmetto state's top interior lineman. N.C. State, Tennessee, Maryland and Alabama have also offered. Washington has claimed no favorites and is being recruited to Tigertown by David Blackwell.
