No Hurry for 4-star Defensive End

One of the top defensive ends in the Southeast is in no hurry to make his decision. When will he narrow the field? Which team is showing the most interest? has the answers in this recruiting update.

DE Sam Montgomery Profile

4-star defensive end Sam Montgomery has already visited a few ACC schools this summer.

"The last visit was when I went to UNC camp," he told in a recent interview. "It went pretty good. I enjoyed the camp. I also visited Clemson earlier in the month. It was good."

The two-sport star has also been a good bit of time on the hardwood.

"Yeah I am going to the Peach Jam this summer. I will also be going out to Las Vegas to play also," said Montgomery.

Which team is the Palmetto state standout hearing from the most?

"I would have to say I am probably hearing from Clemson the most. They really do stay in touch with me a lot. UNC is starting to stay in touch a lot. LSU and Tennessee also stay in touch," replied Montgomery.

Clemson verbal commitment J.K. Jay and Sam have built a good relationship.

"You know I haven't talked to J.K. in a while. It was his birthday and couldn't get in touch with him. I tried to give him a call then though," said Montgomery.

When asked about his current leaders, Montgomery responded, "I don't really have any yet." When will's No. 7 defensive end officially narrow the field?

"I think I will narrow it down around the middle of football season. It is really random. I will just do it when I feel ready," replied Montgomery.

The teams pursuing the Greenwood standout will have to wait it out until the end.

"I don't think I will announce at the All American game [in January]. I think I am going to wait until signing day," he added.

Montgomery, currently the state's No. 1 player, finished his junior season with 65 tackles, 20 tackles for loss and an amazing 20 sacks. He also had four fumbles caused and two recovered, one of which he took back for a touchdown. Top Stories
