TE Orson Charles Profile
Four-star tight end Orson Charles, the No. 4 tight end in the nation according to Scout.com, has been on a visit tour spanning the country within the past couple of weeks.
"On June 7 I went to LSU," he told CUTigers.com in a recent interview. "Then I went to Georgia and Miami. I also went to Purdue, Notre Dame and Illinois. And I went to South Florida too."
More trips are already scheduled this month as well.
"I am going to Florida State this Thursday night. I am going to Southern California and UCLA on July 19 and 20. I am also going to the Elite 11 camp with Aaron [Murray]," said Charles.
There are two other visits the prize recruit would like to take this month.
"I would like also like to go to Clemson and Miami later this month," said Charles.
When asked about his current leaders, Charles responded, "I really don't have any yet. I do plan to have some pretty soon."
After completing the visits over the next few weeks the top tight end will work to narrow the field.
"I am going to have lunch with my pastor and my coach. We will talk about the schools and what I like and don't like. I will do that before my season. If I feel real comfortable with one school I may commit. I am not sure if I will or not this summer," said Charles.
Clemson assistant coach Chris Rumph is recruiting the Florida standout for the Tigers.
"Coach Rumph is great. He is a real funny guy," said Charles.
What will be important when Orson selects his college destination?
"I am looking for a good academic program. I am looking for a school with my major," he said. "I would like to major in Construction Engineering. I want to find a school that uses the tight end. A little playing time will not hurt. If I don't get early playing time that will be okay because I know I am inexperienced.
"I also want to look at the incoming recruiting classes. I will look at how they practice. I like to see intensity. I will also look to see what quarterbacks they have in my class."
His high school teammate, QB Aaron Murray, is currently committed to Georgia. Will his commitment have any impact on Orson's college destination?
"It will have no influence at all," said Charles.
Charles says he can bench press 320-pounds, squat 450 and claims a 35-inch vertical jump.
He also reports a 3.0 core GPA.
As a junior, he caught 12 passes for 400 yards and three scores.
