A full house and a national TV audience is expected for this one as the two Palmetto State rivals clash for the 100th time in a series that has gone uninterrupted since 1909. This is the third-longest active series in Division I-A, trailing only Kansas-Nebraska (1906) and Minnesota-Wisconsin (1907).

THE GAME: North Carolina has held the upper hand in this long-time rivalry since these two arch rivals first met on the gridiron in 1888 ... the Tar Heels have beaten the Blue Devils 12 straight times and lead the series 49-34-4, including a 26-16-2 mark in Chapel Hill ... the 12-game UNC win streak is the longest winning streak in the series' history ... Duke's last win in the series was a 41-0 shutout in Chapel Hill in 1989 ... the ACC series total does not include a 1889 game in Durham that both schools claim as a forfeit victory.

LAST YEAR: Quarterback Ronald Curry threw for 217 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for another score to lead UNC to a 52-17 win in Chapel Hill ... the Tar Heels rolled up a season-high 560 yards in total offense.

THE COACHES: John Bunting is 10-14 in two years at UNC and 48-28-2 in six seasons overall ... Carl Franks is 5-38 in four years at Duke.

Florida State has won seven of the 10 previous games contested in Raleigh.

    LAST YEAR: Philip Rivers threw for 245 yards and Ray Robinson ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns as NC State handed the 10th-ranked Seminoles their first-ever ACC loss in Doak Campbell Stadium 34-28.

    THE COACHES: Bobby Bowden is 258-62-4 in 27 years at FSU and 331-94-4 in 37 seasons overall ... Chuck Amato is 24-12 in his third season at NC State

    THE GAME: Wake Forest's Demon Deacons return to action following a two-week hiatus hosting the Midshipmen of Navy in their final non-conference game of the 2002 season ... Wake Forest has won the last two meetings to take a 4-2 lead in the series ... the two teams have split the two previous meetings in Groves Stadium.

    LAST MEETING: Sophomore QB James MacPherson completed 15 of 21 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns and Tarence Williams ran for 75 yards and three scores as the Deacs totaled 577 yards en route to a 49-26 win before 30,370 in Winston-Salem.

    THE COACHES: Paul Johnson is 1-9 in his first year at Navy and 63-19 in six seasons overall ... Jim Grobe is 11-10 in his second season at Wake Forest and 44-43-1 in seven years overall.

  • Two of the nation's top rushing offenses will be on display Saturday as Navy ranks fifth among Division I-A teams in rushing offense (251.1) while Wake Forest is eighth (248.1) ... rushing yardage accounts for 72 percent of Navy's total offense and 61 percent of Wake's.

Maryland's 41-21 victory last year in College Park snapped a nine-game Virginia winning series' winning streak ... the Cavaliers have won 11 of the last 14 meetings but still trail in the series 38-26-6 ... Virginia has won the last five meetings in Charlottesville ... Maryland's last win in Scott Stadium was a 35-30 decision in 1990.

    LAST YEAR: Maryland scored 17 unanswered fourth quarter points en route to a 41-21 victory in College Park ... Terp TB Bruce Perry ran for a game-high 143 yards and one TD and caught eight passes for 51 yards.

    THE COACHES: Ralph Friedgen is 19-4 in his second season at Maryland ... Al Groh is 12-11 in his second year at UVa and 38-51 in seven seasons overall.

    LAST YEAR: South Carolina snapped a four-game losing streak against Clemson with a 20-15 victory before a Williams-Brice Stadium record crowd of 85,000 ... Woodrow Dantzler threw for 204 yards and two scores and added 102 yards rushing on 20 carries for the Tigers.

    THE COACHES: Lou Holtz is 22-24 in four seasons at South Carolina and 238-119-7 in 31 years overall ... Tommy Bowden is 28-19 in four years at Clemson and 47-22 in six seasons overall.
