To say Byrnes will be loaded this coming season would be somewhat of an understatement. After winning state championships if four of the past five seasons, there's little doubt the Rebels are one of the top high school football programs not only in the state, but also in the nation.
One of the main reasons why is obviously talent and once again in 2008, Byrnes has FBS talent on both sides of the ball.
Leading the way on defense is defensive tackle Brandon Willis, one of the top players at his position in the southeast for the class of 2010.
CUTigers.com caught up with the standout lineman after the Chester Jamboree and here is what he had to say:
Willis: It has been pretty good. We played pretty hard in two tough games. We have a game coming up against Chester. It's pretty good.
How did you feel about the competition with South Pointe?
Willis: It was good. They are going for the championship this year.
How is it to play with Corey on the same defensive line?
Willis: We just go hard man. We are just going hard to get where our team needs to be and help our defense out.
How did you enjoy the visits to Clemson this summer?
Willis: Clemson was fun. I learned a lot of technique with Chris Rumph. Napier really talked to us. They showed us the facilities and stuff like that. It was pretty good.
What is your relationship like with coach Napier?
Willis: It is real good. We have a good relationship. He doesn't steer me any way wrong. I still like Clemson so it's pretty good.
How did you enjoy the camp to Georgia this summer?
Willis: Georgia was real good. I have been there three times. I learned a lot of technique with coach Garner. They offered me so it was pretty good.
Are your former Byrnes teammates at Clemson working you pretty hard?
Willis: Oh yeah, oh yeah. They want me to come.
Do you have a leader right now?
Willis: It is Florida State, Clemson, Georgia and Texas A&M.
Are they all four tied?
Willis: They are all four tied. I see them all equally.
Do you plan on waiting until your senior year to make a decision?
Willis: I don't know. When I do I'll let you know.
