Tangerine Bowl Holds Off

Florida Citrus Sports canceled a meeting of its selection committee for the Mazda Tangerine Bowl and Capital One Bowl on Sunday after discussing possible post season scenarios with officials from the organization's partner conferences.

The Tangerine Bowl was expected to announce their Big XII selection today, but officials decided to hold off on a decision for at least one more week.

"We are probably going to have to wait at least one more week before we can begin to extend invitations for either one of our bowl games," said FCS Executive Director Tom Mickle.

"There are several key games which remain in this very exciting college football season. Couple that fact with the BCS and the trickle down effect reaches both of our bowl games."

The four partner conferences include the ACC, Big 10, Big 12 and SEC. The ACC and Big 12 send representatives to the Mazda Tangerine Bowl, which is played December 23, 2002, while the Big 10 and SEC send teams to the New Year's Day Capital One Bowl.

FCS will conduct its weekly selection committee meeting Monday at 8:00 a.m. in the Varsity Club of the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium.
