Cedric Boone has had another strong season for Americus High School, and he's been crucial in helping secure an undefeated season a serious run in the Class 2A Georgia playoffs. The senior defensive tackle has led the way for a defense that is giving up just 8.8 points per game this year.
On the year, the 6'4, 320-pound tackle has 32 tackles to go along with 7 sacks and 4 fumble recoveries. CUTigers.com had the chance to speak with Boone Tuesday evening to see how things have been going on the recruiting scene and with his team in general. Here's what the big guy had to say.
How have things been going for you so far this season?
Boone: Real good, last time we talked we were 7-0, now we are 11-0 and in the playoffs.
What kind of numbers have you been putting up this season?
Boone: I've got 32 tackles, and either 6 or 7 sacks, and 4 fumble recoveries.
And that's all from your defensive tackle position right?
Boone: Yeah, that's right.
Which schools are recruiting you the hardest right now?
Boone: Pretty much the same schools, South Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, Auburn.
Would you have a top 5?
Boone: Florida State, Georgia, Auburn, South Carolina, and Clemson. I've got offers from all of those schools, and those are also the schools I'll probably set visits to.
Have you been to any college games this fall?
Boone: No, not lately. I went to Tennessee-Georgia a while back, but nothing really lately.
Have you set up any official visits yet?
Boone: No not yet. I'll probably set them up for early January because we are going to be playing football through December.
Has Clemson been in touch with you recently?
Boone: Clemson and South Carolina are still calling me the most right now, I forget the names of the coaches offhand, but they definitely call me the most.
Make no mistake about it, Cedric Boone would be a huge addition on the defensive line in the 2003 class. The Tigers continue to keep close contact but so do the Gamecocks. Boone stressed more than once that both Clemson and Carolina are the two schools that have called him the most this year.
With the success of his team, Boone will likely push a decision back on a verbal commitment until sometime close to Signing day...stay tuned.
