CUTigers.com was on hand to watch Ashbrook's (N.C.) 34-16 win over Shelby (N.C.) Thursday evening. Afterwards, we caught up with four-star wide receiver Jheranie Boyd to get the latest on his top schools in the recruiting process, as well as his performance in the big victory:
Boyd: That play was a designed play. They were biting on the hitch all day. The linebacker was blitzing in and they had Larry guarded me every third down trying to get me off my game. So we knew they were going to bite. I did a great route and the quarterback threw it perfect to the outside. I made a play out of it.
Tell us about the long catch and run you had in the fourth quarter where you took it down to the five.
Boyd: That play was tough. My leg was a little swelled up so it was bothering me all day. They bit perfect. It was designed perfect. I give coach Briggs kudos.
After losing the season opener how has this team made adjustments to come back strong from the opening loss?
Boyd: I feel like our team is closer. I feel like we are coming together. We are working hard in practice. We don't want to have a losing season. We won't to win. I am just trying to be a leader out there and motivate my teammates and my linemen and my quarterback to do better.
Your decision timing on a potential verbal commitment has changed. A couple of weeks ago you said you were ready to announce on Oct. 10. What is the latest on that?
Boyd: Yeah I don't want to make a hasty decision. I don't want to rush anything. I want to take a look at two schools, Missouri and Oregon. I will take official visits out there.
What other schools do you plan to take official visits to?
Boyd: I will take one to Florida, Auburn and probably a close by school. Probably Carolina or Clemson.
Who are your two leaders?
Boyd: I really like Florida and Clemson.
What do you like about Florida?
Boyd: Florida is a wide open offense. The receivers run the ball. They get receptions. Harvin had almost 1000 yards rushing and receiving last year. I like that too.
What do you like about Clemson?
Boyd: Clemson runs the prostyle offense. I want to go to the pros. They are going to teach me everything the pros do. That is my goal right there and to get my degree.
How many times have you talked with coach Napier this week?
Boyd: Almost every day, about three days this week. Me and coach Napier have a great relationship. He motivates me to keep my head up. I have been telling him about the past two games. He is just straight forward and everything.
