Keeping His Options Open

One of the top prospects on the board for the Clemson Tigers in the 2009 recruiting class continues to keep all of his options open.

CB Branden Smith Profile

6-0, 175 pound prospect Branden Smith,'s No. 7 corner in the nation, is off to a strong start with his senior campaign.

"Right now everything is going good," he tells "Our defense is playing well. I'm not getting the ball thrown to my side much. We are 2-2 right now."

"I had a 73-yard kickoff return. I took it to the house. They are not kicking it to me much. Most of the time they kick it short or out of bounds."

Smith says he may take in the Alabama-Georgia game this weekend, but even that isn't set in stone.

"I haven't been to any college games yet so far," he said. "Right now I am thinking about going to see Georgia this weekend."

When asked about his favorites, Smith responded, "I am still open. I don't have a top five or anything yet."

Over the next few months the All American will narrow the field.

"I will start doing it towards the middle of the season. I need another month or two. Then I will narrow things down," said Smith. Which teams are recruiting the Washington High (Ga.) standout the hardest right now?

"Everybody is jumping on me hard right now. They are all about the same," said Smith.

The Clemson staff is one of the teams pushing hard for the Georgia standout.

"They really want me. They would love to have me at Clemson. That is what they are telling me," said Smith.

The Tigers may get a visit later this season from the two-way standout.

"I want to get to everywhere right now. I don't have any plans yet except for this weekend," he added. Top Stories
