Is Brandon Thomas Still Firm?

OL Brandon Thomas Profile

Four-star offensive lineman Brandon Thomas found out late last week that he had a season ending injury.

"It is doing alright," he told CUTigers.com. "I tore my ACL against Byrnes. I will probably have my surgery in about six weeks. They are waiting for the swelling to come down and they want me to get some movement back in my knee.

"The recovery will take about six months. Basically I am done with high school sports. There is not much I can do right now. I should be ready in time for Clemson."

While the injury is an setback for the four-star prospect, he was obviously happy to beat what then was the top-ranked team in the country.

"That was incredible. I was so happy we won. We beat the No. 1 team in the nation. That just proves that people don't always look at the right team," he said.

"We felt very confident going into the game. We were still confident going into the half. We thought we could dominate them. We thought we could beat them at the line of scrimmage. We didn't want them to score any points. We knew as a team that we thought we were better. We were confident and that gave us a big boost.

"Hopefully we will see them in the state championship. I wish I could play."

Last week Thomas was also named to the Sandlapper squad for the Shrine Bowl.

"That was great," Thomas said. "Last year I remember going to watch it when my teammate was in the game. It is a great experience. I would love to go watch the game. I would still like to enjoy the experience."

The powerful lineman also watched the Tigers' victory over Boston College on Saturday.

"I watched the game. It was their best game of the year. I have been telling people they were going to do some good things. They proved my point Saturday," said Thomas.

The Clemson coaches have been encouraging Brandon to stick with his commitment and so far it seems to be working.

"They are telling me lots of positive stuff. They told me they are going to come back strong. They said to stay with us. They said they are going to try hard to finish with a bang," said Thomas.

How does his injury impact his situation with Clemson?

"It doesn't really impact anything," he said. "They have talked to me about it. Clemson says it doesn't impact anything. I should be ready to come in next summer. I will take therapy up until then. Once I get to Clemson next summer I will continue therapy there."

Several schools are pushing to convince the Palmetto standout to open his recruitment.

"Friday they broke the news to me about my ACL. My head coach told me that Florida was interested. North Carolina is on me hard right now. Maryland is still on me pretty hard. Coach Pittman from North Carolina came down last week to talk with me. They want me pretty bad,' said Thomas.

How firm is Brandon with his commitment to the Tigers?

"Right now I am pretty firm. I would still like to setup some visits and see some other schools. Right now I am still firm with Clemson," replied Thomas.
