Rivers Helps Tigers Beat TCU

K.C. Rivers scored 18 points to help Clemson beat TCU 70-58 win on Saturday night in the semifinals of the Charleston Classic.

The Tigers (2-0) will face Temple for the championship on Sunday. TCU (1-1) will play the College of Charleston during the evening.

The Tigers maintained a 10-point lead on several occasions in the second half against the Horned Frogs, but never could pull away until late in the game.

Clemson held TCU to two points over a stretch of 6:32 late in the half to secure the victory.

The Tigers posted 14 blocked shots as a team in the win over TCU, tied for the third-best single-game total in school history.

Edvinas Ruzgas led TCU with 15 points.

David Potter made a 3-pointer with a 1 second left in the first half to give Clemson a 29-27 halftime lead.

This was the first and only meeting in men's basketball between Clemson and TCU since the Tigers claimed a 125-62 victory on Nov. 26, 1977 at the IPTAY Tournament.

Clemson will now attempt to win its 25th regular season tournament on Sunday against Temple.

The Tigers have claimed two regular season tournament championships in the past three years under Purnell. Clemson won the 2005 San Juan Shootout in a true eight-team format, and then won the 2006 four-team Cox Classic to start the season.

Tip-off for the Clemson-Temple game is set for 4:00 PM.
