Larry White, a 3-star prospect and the 20th ranked safety in the country by TheInsiders.com, is a sensational prospect out of Banneker High School in Atlanta, Georgia. The senior middle linebacker finished with 130 total tackles, 2 interceptions and a touchdown on an interception return.
"I had a pretty good year," said White. "But we didn't do that well as a team. We had a lot of new coaches and some young players this year and I think that affected us. we ended up the year 4-6 overall."
White has been hearing from a whole range of schools in the recruiting process, yet he's firm with three favorites headed into the heart of December.
"Right now, it's Clemson, Georgia, and Kansas. All three of those schools have been recruiting me pretty hard. Kansas has already been by my school and I've gotten offers from both Clemson and Georgia," said White.
The senior spent most of his time at middle linebacker this year, but most coaches are telling him that he'll play as a safety in the college ranks. How does he feel about that?
"I mean, I'd like to stay at linebacker, but I've got the speed to get back there and cover a little bit, so it's not a concern or anything," added White.
Several reports had White favoring Georgia but he insists that he's still wide open. "Yeah, you know I probably am favoring Georgia a little, but I'm still wide open. I really am. I want to get out there and take my visits before I decide. I probably won't make a decision until signing day."
White maintains that Clemson and Georgia have been in steady contact with him all season long, and both schools have moved in with a formal scholarship offer.
"Yeah, I've got offers from both Clemson and Georgia, and I'm expecting one from Kansas real soon. That's the only official visit I have set up right now is out in Kansas," added White.
Location isn't really a factor for White either. "I'll go where ever they want to me go you know. It's not really a big deal to me. Nebraska and Oklahoma were both recruiting me pretty hard for a while, I was looking there for a little bit."
We will continue to keep you updated on Larry White right up through signing day. This one looks like it's going to the wire with Clemson and Georgia battling it out to the bitter end.
White is in the process of setting up official visits to both Clemson and Georgia, even though nothing has been set in stone just yet. At his size, you'd have to think that he could move into the rover position in the Tigers' defensive scheme, or possibly as the whip.
Regardless, White made it crystal clear that he is still open between Clemson, Georgia, and Kansas. With 4.5 speed as a linebacker/safety, you just feel like you can never have enough players on your team like that. Stay tuned.
