Three Coaches Contacted

CLEMSON - In addition to Danny Pearman, as many as three other coaches have been contacted about positions on Clemson's coaching staff.

Charlie Harbison, former defensive coordinator at Mississippi State is one, according to sources in Starkville, Miss. and Clemson. The word is he is being looked at to be a defensive backs coach at Clemson and he also could draw interest from South Carolina considering his good friend Ellis Johnson is the defensive coordinator there.

In addition, former Mississippi State assistant Woody McCorvey has been contacted as well, possibly about an administrative position at Clemson or to be a wide receivers coach.

McCorvey was thought to be line to take an assistant coaching position at South Carolina Tuesday before sources told CUTigers.com the Gamecocks' administration was unwilling to offer McCorvey a multi-year contract.

The deal fell through and now McCorvey is back on the market. It is thought he would rather take an assistant coaching position as opposed to an administrative role.

Now, a third coach has been contacted- former Tennessee defensive coordinator John Chavis, according to sources in Knoxville and in South Carolina.

Chavis has been rumored to be interested in LSU as well, but sources tell CUTigers.com he would rather be at Clemson.

Sources also tell CUTigers.com if he is hired by Dabo Swinney, he could bring at least one other coach with him- possibly defensive line coach Dan Brooks.

It is unclear when any interviews will take place with any of the three candidates.

Both coordinator positions at Clemson have changed since Dabo Swinney took over the head coaching position on an interim basis on Oct. 13 before taking over permanently on Dec. 1.

Swinney relieved Rob Spence of his duties as an offensive coordinator on Oct. 13 while defensive coordinator Vic Koenning resigned Dec. 2.

It is believed Swinney is looking to hire an experienced defensive coordinator while Billy Napier seems to have the inside track to be the offensive coordinator.

Swinney has already hired one assistant - former Maryland tight ends/special teams coach Danny Pearman. Pearman will coach Clemson in the upcoming Gator Bowl and will likely focus on tight ends and offensive tackles.
