NC LB Visiting Clemson Friday

This uncommitted sleeper from the Tar Heel State will visit Clemson officially this coming weekend.

LB Spencer Shuey Profile

Shrine Bowl defensive MVP Spencer Shuey has seen the recruiting interest pickup significantly since his impressive performance.

"I have talked to a lot of coaches since then," Shuey told Sunday night. "I have talked with Clemson, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia and N.C. State."

The Clemson Tigers will get the first official visit this weekend.

"I am going to Clemson this weekend. I think my dad is going to come with me," said Shuey. "On the 16th I am going to UNC. On the 23rd I am going to Illinois, but I may change that to Tennessee if they come through with an offer."

Clemson assistant coach Billy Napier is recruiting the South Mecklenburg (N.C.) standout for the Tigers.

"I talked to coach Napier yesterday," Shuey said. "He told me he was excited for me to come up next weekend. He said he was going to come down this week and see me. He said don't be surprised if they offer on my visit."

What do he hope to see during his official visit this weekend at Clemson?

"I have been there before and seen the campus. I was down there for baseball. I want to see behind the scenes. I want to see the football facilities. I also want to meet the players and the coaches," replied Shuey.

When asked if he has a leader, Shuey responded, "I am waiting until after the official visits to see who I like the best."

What will be most important when he selects his college destination?

"Academics will definitely be important, but all of the schools I am looking at have great academics so I can't go wrong. I will just look to see where I fit in best," replied Shuey.

Lastly, Shuey said there are no family preferences for any of the schools he will visit.

"I actually grew up a Kentucky fan," he added. "I don't have anyone wanting me to go to Tennessee. Growing up in North Carolina I really didn't like them since I was a Kentucky fan." Top Stories
