Tigers Set to Battle Winthrop

The Clemson Tigers enter tonight's game against Winthrop with a 5-0 record and will have the opportunity to move to 6-0 for the first time since the opening of the 1995-96 season when Clemson opened with an 11-0 start. The Tigers are one of four ACC teams that are still undefeated.

The Series
Clemson holds a 6-1 advantage in the series with Winthrop, but the Eagles defeated the Tigers last year at Clemson by a 66-61 score. Tyrone Walker, a junior forward on this year's Winthrop team, scored 25 points to lead Winthrop to the victory. Former Clemson player Tywan Harris added 17 off the bench for the NCAA-bound Winthrop team.

The loss to Winthrop was the first time Clemson had lost to a team from the Big South conference in 36 tries. The Tigers were led that night by Jamar McKnight, who poured in 20 points and Chris Hobbs who added 12.

The game will be the first for the Eagles after a 12-day layoff due to final examinations. Tickets are still available at the Civic Center of Anderson for $15 apiece. The game will also be televised live on Fox Sports South.

Quick Notes
Starting point guard Edward Scott ranks second in the ACC in scoring heading into this week's play. He is averaging 18.4 points per game and has scored in double figures every game this season. This is the longest stetch of consecutive double scoring games of his career. His 31-9 assist to turnover ratio is best in the ACC.

Scott's backcourt teammate, Chey Christie, is second on the team in scoring with 11.6 avrage and has a 14/4 assist to turnover ration. Sharrod Ford has also scored in double figures in 4 out of 5 games and has notched at least 7 rebound in each of those contests.

The Tigers continue to dominate the boards, just as they did a year ago when they were one of the top rebounding teams in the conference. Clemson has averaged a +9.6 rebounding advantage through the first 5 games of the season.

The Tigers next game after facing Winthrop, will be against the Cincinnati Bearcats, who absolutely destroyed the 5th ranked Oregon Ducks earlier in the week to the tune of 77-52. Cincinnati is now 5-2 on the year.
