Whiteside Chooses Carolina

Wide receiver Noah Whiteside gave Lou Holtz and South Carolina an early Christmas present. The senior wide receiver from Greenville (SC) committed to the Gamecocks this past Sunday night.

"They have recruited me the hardest and they were the first to actually start recruiting me," said Whiteside in an interview early Friday afternoon.

"They showed me a lot of loyalty. They wanted me bad and they need me and guys like me. I like the staff, the scheme, and I think I can play pretty early there. It was not that hard of a decision. It basically came down to South Carolina and Clemson."

That is one of a few big name prospects that could fall to the Gamecocks. It is expected that running back Demetris Summers, quarterback Syvelle Newton, and linebacker Ryan Brown will all sign with South Carolina.

Of course those players have not committed to South Carolina or anyone at this time. The senior out of Greenville brought in 86 receptions for 1770 yards and 20 touchdowns for the Red Raiders, and was named to the Shrine Bowl.

Whiteside failed to catch a pass last Saturday in his final performance of his high school career. He commented afterwards, "I think we should have passed the ball more, but it just didn't happen today. We really didn't throw that much in practice either though, so it wasn't a surprise."

Clemson wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Rick Stockstill was Whiteside's main recruiter. With Whiteside going to South Carolina, formal scholarship offers may now be in the works with Valdosta wide receiver Cory Clemmons or Atlanta wide out Brandon Allen.
