Four-star guard down to two

After an unofficial visit to Clemson Thursday, one of the top prospects in the nation for the 2009 recruiting class is officially down to two schools, and he is ready to announce his decision to the world on Friday.

Noel Johnson (6-7), a four-star shooting guard prospect according to Scout.com, enjoyed his unofficial visit to Clemson on Thursday.

Talking with CUTigers.com late Thursday evening, Noel's father, Lynbert "Cheese" Johnson, said the trip went extremely well.

"It went really well," he said. "It really did. Noel is down to two schools right now. Clemson and LSU. We spent a long time with Coach Purnell and that all went good."

Mr. Johnson declined to discuss the trip further, but did say he expected Noel to have a decision in place by 6:30 Friday evening.

"You can call back then," he said.

Johnson, who originally signed with Southern California before opting for a release, is rated as the No. 13 shooting guard in the nation by Scout.com and the No. 56 prospect overall.

He is being recruited for the 2009 class.

Scout.com college basketball recruiting expert Dave Telep says about Johnson, "One of the sweetest strokes in the high school game. Works out a lot and is a kid who takes the time to make adjustments. Has a lot of former pros around him who help polish up his skill package."

Johnson's Godfather is former NBA standout and Columbia, S.C. native Xavier McDaniel. Last season he averaged 28 points and nine rebounds per game.
