Watkins Commits to Clemson

The Tigers have their first verbal commitment from a linebacker in Louisiana native Nick Watkins. Watkins was an all-state performer this past season and had scholarship offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, West Virginia, and Indiana.

Nick Watkins will come to Clemson from Karr High School, a program known for producing strong Division I-A linebackers. Experts that have followed him during his last two seasons note that he has 4.5 speed and moves exceptionally well for a player of his size (6-2, 220).

Watkins will most likely get a shot at outside linebacker, but pending on his growth, he could make the move to the insider if necessary.

The senior linebacker had offers from the previously mentioned schools, but also received heavy interest from Miami and Tennessee last fall. He finished his senior year with over 150 total tackles 8 sacks and 4 interceptions.

Coach Burns was Watkins' main recruiter.
