Nelson Not Giving Up on Howard

Maurice Nelson, one of the most coveted safety prospects in the southeast, and a Clemson verbal commitment, refuses to give up on the Marcus Howard saga. Details on the latest with Nelson, Howard, and even Eric Young, are contained in this report. This one is a must read for Tiger fans!

Maurice Nelson, who verbally committed to the Tigers just two weeks ago, has been enjoying himself now that the recruiting madness has died down.

"Yeah, after I made my commitment and I called all the coaches, everything died down real quick," said Nelson Thursday evening. "Right now, I'm just concentrating on school and getting stronger for next season."

Even with Nelson's commitment firmly in place, Clemson recruiting coordinator Rick Stockstill remains a close with the Crestwood linebacker.

"He's been by a couple of times, as a matter of fact, he was here earlier this week, and I've been talking to him a good bit," said Nelson.
And that brings us to Hanahan linebacker Marcus Howard.

"Man, I don't know what's going on there. I didn't think he would commit to Georgia, but he did you know. I'm not sure if he's trying to shock the world on signing day or what."

"I've talked to him a couple of times, and I think he's still willing to listen to the Clemson coaches, so you never know with him. I don't think it's over," added Nelson.

The senior linebacker also said that his mother had been in touch with Eric Young's mother very recently.

"Yeah, they were talking and his mom wants him to stay in-state too, just like mine. I couldn't believe it when I read that he had committed to Tennessee. All along he was saying it was going to be Clemson or Carolina, Clemson or Carolina, and then he went and did that," added Nelson.

"We'll see what he does on signing day I guess."

Nelson also added that the coaches are really stressing to him that he could get some early playing time next year if all goes according to plan. The incoming freshman will line up as a rover this fall in the Clemson defensive backfield, and all indications are that he's ready to play.

"You tell everyone else that Maurice Nelson is ready to play, and they better be ready," said the star linebacker.

They'll be ready, the only question is, will the rest of the ACC be? Top Stories
