Ford: Yeah, there are definitely still going to be those people who don't believe in us. But you know, Wake is a very good team. They beat Maryland last week and we lost to Maryland so it just shows that you Wake is a good team but we just really played our full potential. This week is going to be a big test for everybody: offense, defense, and special teams. This a very good Miami team that we're going against, but it is a team we're capable of beating if we do play the way that we can.
This is obviously an excellent opportunity for you guys to redeem your losses, do you feel the weight of that going into this weekend?
Ford: I think they'll definitely look at this team as a different team. This is a team that was backwards against the ropes and could have put our tail between our legs, but we didn't. We're trying to rise to the case and go out there and play Clemson football the way it's supposed to be played and try to get a big win this week.
Are you excited about this opportunity to travel on the road and play the against top 10 threat of what is Miami right now?
Ford: It's definitely going to be a blast, especially if you are from Florida. I'm down from that area, which is where Chris Chancellor and a couple other guys are from. There's going to be a lot of family there and a lot of friends. I know a lot of people on their team and they know a lot of people up here. It's going to be a lot of fun to go out there and play against those guys, but they play the game well. They play hard and their fans are going to be rowdy even though they don't play in a stadium on campus. It's going to be a good environment to go down into and we just have to stay focused and not let the crowd affect us.
Do you feel that the plays were simplified this last week were the benefits that allowed for the win?
Ford: I always thought the plays were simple but we just executed them to our full ability. We had two great weeks of practice and we just went out there and showed everything the scout team did in practice. It was pretty much just carried over from practice into the game. I think it really showed off on Saturday and as a result we ended up playing well
"My greatest memory would have to be every time my brother played them when he was at Florida State. Watching Santana Moss and Andre Johnson and all those other guys that they had down there. After they went down there and played them in the Orange Bowl, that atmosphere was just incredible." (Roy Philpott)
Ford: I think throwing the long pass was more fun. I kind of had been waiting on that one all year, so I could definitely say that one was more fun than catching another one. Everyone was yelling for me to throw it, so I actually didn't get the perfect target I'd been going for in practice. I just heard them yelling to throw it where he was open, so I just kind of aimed for where the defender couldn't get the ball and showed off the few quarterback skills I do have.
Do you think Miami's skill guys will match up well with this team's?
Ford: Yeah, I definitely think they will match up very well with us. They have some great skill guys in the secondary that they can run really well They have Brandon Harris and Sam Shields, who was a WR and track guy, and who is now a DB. I have a good friend of mine, Randy Phillips, who is a hard hitter and has tremendous speed at linebacker. So they're very good up front. I know a lot of those guys down there, so it'll be a lot like a reunion going back down there and playing against those guys.
Does this road game feel a little more special because you will be so close to home?
Ford: Definitely. My parents have to travel 10 hours just to get up here and now they'll only have to travel 30-45 minutes. I have a lot of other family that is going to get the opportunity to watch me play who have never gotten to see me play since I have been in college. It's going to mean a lot to me to go down there and play in my hometown.
Did you want to play at Miami growing up?
Ford: That is actually where I did want to play when I was a kid. I grew up a big Miami fan and I always did want to go there when I was smaller. But it didn't actually turn up that way and I ended up being at Clemson. I don't regret coming here at all though.
What's your greatest memory from being a Miami fan growing up?
Ford: My greatest memory would have to be every time my brother played them when he was at Florida State. Watching Santana Moss and Andre Johnson and all those other guys that they had down there. After they went down there and played them in the Orange Bowl, that atmosphere was just incredible. So every time they did play them, it was exciting. I was rooting for Florida State, but on the inside I was always routing for Miami.
How do you go from cheering for Miami to playing against them?
Ford: Well it's what they say, if you can't play for them you have to beat them. That's what we have to try and go out there and do, just play a good game. It's going to be a really fun game and I can't wait to play these guys.
