The Tajh Boyd Chronicles

CLEMSON - Freshman QB Tajh Boyd talks about the win over Coastal Carolina, looks ahead to Florida State and much more.

The Coastal game started off kind of rough until we started scoring like every drive. It turned out to be a fun game.

Willy and I are good friends, so I'm always exciting for me to see him do well. When he went out there, I was cheering for him and stuff like that. Jaron catching that little screen pass, he made some alright moves. It was fun watching him play. Corico had a good game too. It's exciting to see those guys grow up a little bit.

Florida State has one of the better offenses in the conference. It'll be a challenge for the defense. I'm going to do my best to simulate him as well as I can. He's a great quarterback. I just ask the defense to go as hard as they can. I'm going to go as hard as I can to help my level of competition, to just know when I do stuff, it's not because they let me do it. I know Coach Steele gets on them all the time. He doesn't want us to gain a yard. The defense is stepping up and it's good to be a part of that.

Ponder is a great leader, a real physical guy. He doesn't back down from competition at all. He throws the ball well on the move. I thought he'd have a little better year, as far as overall, compared to last year. They've got some young guys out there. They're kind of struggling as a whole. He can move, he buys time--I'm going to try to simulate that the best that I can.

I do certain things the same. I like to get out of the pocket a little bit. I know he likes to do that as well. He's got a hurt rib. I'm going to be anxious to see with the defense, because they're going to be coming with relentless effort. It's going to be fun.

Our defense is just fast. You can do some things, but you've got to make a move and go. You can't be dancing around because everybody is pursuing. Ponder might get a few opportunities to run in the game, but he's going to have to make the most of them. The defense doesn't give up much in the situations like that. They're going to be coming real hard. They might get a few runs, here and there. We'll see what happens.

This is a big game for the school, as a whole. Florida State, I don't think they've won in Death Valley since, like 2001. We don't want to take this game any differently than any other game. It's definitely a big conference game. We don't want to look past it. It's supposed to be Solid Orange--it's going to be rocking. I'm looking forward to it. It should be explosive out there.

Games like this are a prestige game. No matter how well Florida State is doing, they're always Florida State. When you beat them, it's going to be a big win. It's going to be on ESPN, so I'm sure a lot of people are going to be watching--a lot of recruits. They're going to get a good look. It's going to be huge.
