Purnell, players discuss collapse

CLEMSON - Listen to head coach Oliver Purnell and selected players discuss the loss to Illinois.

"It was a tale of two halves. I thought we couldn't have played much better in the first half. We did exactly what we wanted to do in terms of pressuring them. Did a good job of guarding their sets. Offensively we did a good job of inside-out and playing as one. We went in at halftime at talked about the fact that Illinois would give us everything they had in the first five minutes. We were up 23. At that point we relaxed and gave up some three's that clearly we didn't allow them to have in the first half. They made two or three of those and then all of a sudden nine quick points."

"We let them penetrate a lot in the second half. We've got to help each other and still be responsible for your man. We just got to pick it up and be more aggressive on defense."

"We can only allow one loss to be one loss. They came out in the second half and kind of switched defenses on us every single possession. They switched between zone and man and they made jump shots. That's the name of the game sometimes. They are a very solid team."

I just can't say enough about Clemson. It was the exact same score as last year. They just came off a tough road trip and maybe that affected them. I am just amazed. At the half I told them to at least compete. They took it to us in the first, and then came out slow in the second and we were able to take advantage. Demetri (McCamey) was the key for us. He did so many things well. Our defense was better in the second half. I have to give the kids credit for coming back. We made so many big plays and we tied it up quickly. Now we just have to be consistent."
