Tra Thomas Profile

As expected, Tra Thomas will be a Clemson Tiger.

Thomas, who is participating in this week's Shrine Bowl, has pledged his verbal commitment to the Clemson coaching staff, according to multiple sources.

Thomas, who has been favoring Clemson for quite some time, told CUTigers Monday he was considering Clemson, Duke, West Virginia, Georgia and Michigan State, in that order.

He'll also be on an official visit to Clemson on Jan. 8, having already taken official visits to Michigan State and Penn State previously.

Clemson defensive tackle coach Dan Brooks stopped through Wadesboro last Tuesday to visit Thomas and his parents. Thomas said coaches from Duke and East Carolina were also in town to see him and his parents.

"Me and Dan Brooks have a great relationship, a great bond," Thomas said. "He's a great coach. I like the atmosphere, the staff, how they do things. Their defense is what we run at our high school, so I can blend in really well."

His Anson teammate, Brandon Ellerbe, is a already a 2011 Clemson commit as well.

Scout.com rates him as a two-star prospect and the No. 105 defensive tackle in the nation for the class of 2010.

More coming from Thomas later today.
