Kiffin out, Clemson in?

With Lane Kiffin's departure to Southern California, a former 2011 Tennessee commit is looking elsewhere.

CUTigers spoke with Gainesville High School (G.A.) linebacker A.J. Johnson Tuesday night after Kiffin announced that he'd head to Southern California. That bodes as good news for Clemson.

"I'm going to decommit," Johnson said.

He was finishing his basketball game when friends began telling him what happened.

"I couldn't believe it. I was just like, ‘for real?' I was just talking to coach (Ed) Orgeron about a week ago," Johnson said.

Orgeron will follow Kiffin to Southern California, where both have coached.

Johnson said Clemson, Miami, Alabama and LSU are the schools that move into his consideration.

"I went to Clemson for their bowl practice," he said. "Clemson has been recruiting me a lot. So that's probably my top right now."

This spring, Johnson plans to make several trips for junior days. Clemson is a definite destination, Alabama and Miami are maybes. Top Stories
