Versatile athlete claims offers

The most prized jumbo-athlete prospect out of the Palmetto State for the class of 2011 sports an impressive list of offers so far.

LB Dexter Staley Profile

Dexter Staley claims offers from Clemson, South Carolina, Florida, Maryland and Duke.

"I don't have any favorites right now," he said.

Clemson is recruiting Staley to play linebacker. South Carolina is recruiting him as an outside linebacker or wide receiver. Maryland is recruiting him as linebacker and Florida as a running back.

"It doesn't matter to me which position I play," Staley said.

As a junior, he put up impressive numbers for Williston-Elko High School in Williston, S.C.

Staley rushed for 1,700 yards, had 1,110 yards receiving and about 30 touchdowns. On defense, he had about 90 tackles. To say he's been a busy man on Friday nights would be an understatement.

"That's how I like it," Staley said.

Also this fall, he attended one game at Clemson and three games at South Carolina.

"I went to the first Clemson game (against Middle Tennessee). It was my second time there and that was my first game," he said. "It was alright. I liked it there."

Defensive end coach Chris Rumph is handling the recruitment of Staley, who has yet to put together a schedule for junior days this spring.

Clemson offered a "couple of days after" Sept. 1, when juniors can be offered.

Staley is 6-3, 230 pounds. Top Stories
