Steele to stay has confirmed that after a serious flirtation with Tennessee, Kevin Steele has decided to stay at Clemson. confirmed the news at 6:35 PM Tuesday evening.

Steele had been offered the defensive coordinator job at Tennessee by new head coach Derek Dooley and was ready to accept the position before ultimately deciding to stay at Clemson.

Reports surfaced on the internet shortly before 3 PM eastern time Tuesday that Steele was in line to become the Vols' next defensive coordinator, but after meeting with Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, it never officially happened.

Sources also tell CUTigers Steele began to have a change of heart about leaving Clemson for Tennessee after meeting with several of his players.

Steele took over the defensive coordinator job in Tigertown last year after a stint at Alabama, and helped lead Clemson to a No. 20 national ranking in total defense and an Atlantic Division Championship.

The Tigers were also seventh in passing defense and 25th in scoring defense. Top Stories
