Upstate DB looking for Clemson offer

The best junior safety in the Upstate already has one offer, and he hopes Clemson sends one his way soon.

CUTigers caught up with 2011 J.L. Mann (Greenville) safety Pat Martin last month at the Scout Showcase in Duluth, Ga.

An offer from Clemson would move the Tigers to the top of his list.

"It's close to home, right down the street. My family could come see me play, my friends too," he said. "If they offer me, I would probably commit there."

Minnesota is the only school that's extended a written offer to Martin. UCLA has given a verbal.

Of the schools he's visited lately, Martin's been to Georgia Tech, Georgia and Alabama. The day before the Scout Showcase, he was in Athens for junior day. After the combine, he was in Clemson for the Maryland basketball game, where he spent a lot of time with running backs coach Andre Powell. It was his first trip to Tigertown since he was in town watching the state championship games in 2008.

Even though he's yet to get that offer he's hoping for, Martin's not worrying too much.

"There are some schools showing some serious interest. Some schools might come in and offer me a scholarship," Martin said. "They might move down if it takes them a little while."

As a junior, he had 85 tackles, two interceptions--one for a touchdown and four forced fumbles. Top Stories
