Tigers entertain top in-state OLB

South Carolina's top 2011 outside linebacker stopped in Columbia before he was personally greeted in Clemson by defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and freshman linebacker Quandon Christian.

OLB Lateek Townsend Profile

CUTigers spoke to Marlboro County outside linebacker Lateek Townsend shortly after he finished his Saturday day-trip to Tigertown.

The Scout.com three-star rated gave the visit a good review.

"It was great, excellent. All of it went well," he said.

Townsend took a detour through Columbia for a recruiting photo shoot in the morning, but shoot was delayed and he wasn't able to make it for the start of Junior Day.

"Quandon Chrsitian stayed with me the whole time and showed me around," Townsend said. "The group was already ahead of me, because I was late. We watched the highlight film on the jumbotron. Then, we came in. To make a long story short, we went to the basketball game."

At the basketball game against Virginia, he and Christian sat with Corico Hawkins, Tony McNeal and Tajh Boyd.

Townsend also sat down with coach Dabo Swinney.

"We just talked about how everything was…I was in there for about 20, 25 minutes. We talked about everything," Townsend said. "We talked about him as a person, him as a coach. We talked about me being a player, everything other than football—school, academic-wise.

"I can't find too many things I don't like. Everything about the school, I like."

He's yet to set a timetable for a decision, but doesn't expect to go anywhere else in the future.

"I won't take any more trips. I don't plan to take anymore trips," Townsend said.
