Paint Him Orange?

Lateek Townsend just pulled the trigger and committed to Clemson, making him the eighth prospect that's scheduled to sign in 2011. Or did he?

OLB Lateek Townsend Profile

On campus for Junior Day this weekend, three-star rated linebacker Lateek Townsend publicly committed to Clemson Sunday at a banquet in Columbia, according to several sources.

However, Townsend told at 5:40 PM Eastern Time that right now he does not consider himself a commitment to the Tigers until he calls Dabo Swinney and Kevin Steele to confirm.

Still, Townsend told earlier, "It's where my hearts at (referring to Clemson)."

Offered by Clemson during his sophomore year at Marlboro County High School, the Tigers have been among his favorites for quite some time.

With other offers from South Carolina, North Carolina, N.C. State, Maryland, Wake Forest, Duke, Illinois and East Carolina, Townsend has decided that Clemson is his absolute favorite.

"I like everything about Clemson, there isn't anything I dislike about them," he said.

Clemson hosted Townsend for the first time last fall when the Tigers played Middle Tennessee. He was also in for unofficial visits to the Coastal Carolina and Florida State games. Prior to the Junior Day trip to Clemson, he was in Tigertown in late-January for the Duke basketball game.

During his junior season, Townsend had 189 tackles, 13 sacks, one interception and three forced fumbles.

Townsend's only Junior Day trip this spring has been to Clemson. He doesn't plan to go anywhere else for visits this spring or summer.

He would like to major in business or communications.

According to reliable sources, it appears Townsend will ultimately publicly commit to Clemson, even though as of this writing, he does not officially consider himself a public commitment to the Tigers.
