OLB Lateek Townsend Profile

CUTigers was in contact with Marlboro County outside linebacker Lateek Townsend Monday afternoon and learned that he will not be holding a press conference this week to announce his commitment to Clemson.

After weekend reports had the Scout.com three-star as a Clemson commitment, Townsend said that he does not consider himself a Clemson commit at this time.

"As we know, this is a long process that I will be going through, so I will not hold the press conference," he said. "I'm going to wait before I commit."

He does still consider the Tigers as his clear-cut favorite.

"I really don't have any top (favorites) other than Clemson," Townsend said.

Since reports surfaced that he was committing to Clemson, his recruitment has picked up.

"Since everyone heard I was going to commit early, coaches from other schools are talking more to me," he said.

Townsend said he's received offers from Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, South Carolina, Duke, Wake Forest, North Carolina, Miami, Illinois, N.C. State and East Carolina.

"I'm not really worried about who offers. I just want to be sure on my decision," Townsend said.

During his junior season, Townsend recorded 189 tackles, 13 sacks, one interception and three forced fumbles.

He was on campus for Clemson's Junior Day on Saturday after making two trips to Tigertown unofficially last fall.
