This Scout.com three-star rated tight end made a last-minute change to his plans for a Junior Day visit to Clemson last weekend, but that doesn't mean the Tigers aren't sitting in good position.

CUTigers caught up with Ardrey Kell High School (Charlotte, N.C.) tight end Drew Owens recently to see how his third visit to Clemson went.

"I was supposed to go, but I wasn't able to make it down, but I definitely will make it at some point for a visit," he said.

Last summer, Owens was in for Dabo Swinney's camp and later attended the Texas Christian game in the fall.

Clemson ranks among his favorites right now.

"They're definitely in the top five," Owens said.

Along with Clemson, South Carolina also occupies a spot in his top five.

"It's Clemson and South Carolina that are the only two schools that are definitely concrete.

North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech and N.C. State are also in consideration.

Owens aid he's been offered by "all the North Carolina schools, all of the South Carolina schools, all of the Virginia schools, Maryland and Vanderbilt."

Clemson and South Carolina are firm among his favorites for a few of the same reasons.

Clemson: "I like how they use their tight ends--their tight end program. I like the coach and the atmosphere at the stadium."

South Carolina: "They have a good tight end program. They send a lot of tight ends to the league--that kind of stuff."

Owens is looking at early playing time as his main factor in deciding which school he'll commit to before his senior year.

Tight ends/offensive tackles coach Danny Pearman is Owens' recruiter.

"He came down a couple of times when coaches could come in. We talk about once or twice every two weeks," Owens said.

As a junior he had 14 catches for 221 yards and four touchdowns.
