Several published reports Saturday had confirmed Cortez Davis switched has de-committed from Clemson and now committed to Florida State. As it turns out, that's not 100 percent true.

CUTigers spoke with Mainland High School (Daytona Beach, Fla.) safety Cortez Davis shortly after it was reported that he had committed to Florida State. The one-time Clemson commit said he's not committed to anyone right now.

Riding back from Junior Day at Florida State with Mainland teammate Garrett Clark, Davis told CUTigers the latest.

"I just want to open everything up and wait for Signing Day to decide," he said. "I'm opened up."

Davis said he believes there was some miscommunication in that he was committed to Florida State.

Despite his de-commitment from Clemson, he ranks the Tigers first on his list. Second is Alabama, Florida State is third and Southern California is fourth.

"Clemson is still number one. I'm just opened up right now," Davis said.

He verbally committed to the Tigers in October while in town with Clark and Mainland running back/2011 Clemson commit Marlin Lane.

Lane, a four-star running back, remains firm to Clemson.

The 6-4, 190 pound safety is being recruited to Clemson by defensive ends coach Chris Rumph.

He is also expected to be rated four-stars by later this year. Top Stories
