ATH Robert Smith Profile
The Woodland High School athlete committed to Dabo Swinney and the Clemson Tigers on Jan. 15, not long after he'd already accepted an invitation to Georgia's Junior Day.
"They sent me that mail before I committed to Clemson. I told them I was coming, so I wanted to stay to my word that I was coming," Smith said.
Though he made the trip to Athens, he's still firm with his commitment to Clemson.
Smith considered Georgia and Clemson has his two favorites, but he hasn't been offered by the Bulldogs.
"Clemson and Georgia are about the same thing. I like Clemson a little bit more," Smith said. "I've told everybody that Clemson and Georgia were my favorite teams growing up. It was good going down there and comparing Clemson and Georgia."
Clemson is the only school that's offered him to date, but he still hears from Georgia and Florida State.
In less than two weeks, Smith will be cleared by doctors to start running on the knee he injured during his junior season.
"In the fifth game of my junior year, in the second or third quarter I tore my ACL," Smith said.
"The doctor said I can jog. A month after that, I will be fully active. I can do whatever I want—I can go through contact, cut, anything I can do—I can start back."
He'll be back in Tigertown next month for the spring game.
As a freshman, Smith threw for over 2,500 yards and 25 touchdowns and ran for over 700 yards and seven touchdowns. As a sophomore, he accounted for over 3,400 yards of total offense and 36 touchdowns.
The Tigers will look at Smith on the defensive side of the ball next year once he arrives on campus.
