Tigers' style suits '11 point guard

Just days after the close of Clemson's 2009-10 basketball season, CUTigers brings you the latest on this 2011 point guard from the state of Florida.

PG Shane Larkin Profile

The son of former Cincinnati Reds shortstop Barry Larkin, Dr. Phillips High School (Orlando) junior Shane Larkin is starting to make a name for himself on the hardwood.

CUTigers recently caught up with the Scout.com three-star rated, No. 21 ranked point guard in the class of 2011 that's been offered by Clemson, South Florida, Virginia Commonwealth, George Mason and Central Florida.

Though he has no favorites, his preferred style of play suits what's run by coach Oliver Purnell at Clemson.

"I want to have a good relationship with the coaches. I want to go somewhere I can play early and has my style of play," Larkin said. "I play up-tempo, pressure defense, full and half-court trap, penetrate and kick on offense."

Miami, Harvard, Georgia Tech and Virginia have yet to offer him, but are keeping in close contact.

Larkin will wait through the summer to see what other offers come, take his official visits during his senior year and decide next spring.

"Whatever place feels like home, that's where I'll go," he said.

Purnell and assistant coach Josh Postorino keep in regular touch with Larkin.

"I talk to them probably about once every two weeks," Larkin said.

He has not made a trip to Clemson yet, but said, "I plan on trying to get up there."
