Zam Frederick is having a fine season. He's tossing in 29-30 points a game. "I'm leading the state in scoring right now," Frederick said. "Last summer I played AAU against a lot of tough competition the whole time and you had to bring your "A" game the whole time and the hard work I put in put me over the top."
Schools are more than noticing. South Carolina and Clemson have offered him a scholarship. "[South Carolina] said that if I commit they'll stop recruiting all the guards that play my position and they would key on Ra'Sean [Dickey] and get one more person to commit." Frederick said Clemson has the same stance.
Connecticut, Oklahoma State, Kentucky, Georgia and a host of others are staying in contact with him. However, no one has the kind of ties South Carolina has with him. Zam's father played for the Gamecocks and led the nation in scoring in 1981.
"He told me I can go wherever I want. He said it's my choice. It does matter but he's not pressuring me to go to South Carolina."
Frederick, like many kids in his class, is concerned with playing time. He said that getting on the floor early is going to be a key issue. "I'm not sure where I want to go to school yet. I'm going to take all my visits. I'm looking for the right fit. It depends on who's leaving. I don't want to have to wait behind anyone or share it. People are trying to make me and Ra'Sean a package."
Frederick said that he and Dickey are not at all opposed to heading to college as a package deal. However, some schools like North Carolina are not recruiting Frederick but are chasing Dickey.
Frederick has taken just one unofficial visit this year and it was to Clemson for the Tigers game against Duke in January.
