SF Marcus Thornton Profile
Though Marcus Thornton still claimed Clemson as his favorite, he chose to leave himself with some wiggle room, in case things didn't work out with the Tigers' new coach.
Now that Brad Brownell holds that position, the Thornton family is waiting for their first conversation with Clemson's new head man.
Billy Thornton, Marcus' father, spoke to CUTigers hours after Brownell was introduced in Tigertown.
"We haven't had a chance to talk to him. He's going to call us. Dr. (Terry Don) Phillips is trying to arrange that," the elder Thornton said. "I just really want to wait until I talk to him. We hear he's a really fine coach. It would only be fair to wait until we talked to him.
"We've got to do a little research. He's not somebody that we are that familiar with, other than what's kind of popped up in the press."
Mr. Thornton confirmed that Kentucky, Alabama and Georgia are some of the initial schools that have been in contact with his son since opting out of his Clemson LOI.
"Those are some of the initial people who have offered to come visit," he said of the three SEC schools.
"We are in the process of scheduling in-home visits. We don't have that all ironed out yet."
Thornton awaits call from Brownell
