NC LB enjoys Clemson trip

Though Clemson has not joined the 12 other schools that have offered, the Tigers hosted one of the nation's top 2011 outside linebackers in the last week of March.

Following the trip to Clemson, Ashbrook High School (Gastonia, N.C.) outside linebacker Norkeithus Otis also visited Georgia Tech, Florida North Carolina after making his first appearance in Tigertown.

His uncle and mentor through the recruiting process, Eric Otis, recently spoke with CUTigers.

"We haven't talked to Clemson since our visit," the elder Otis said.

He's still considering all of those schools that have offered, some of which include: South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Florida, LSU and North Carolina.

If an offer comes from Clemson, the Tigers will be among those that are evaluated.

"At this point, they haven't offered, so we can't really gauge any interest," Otis said. "We would just be hoping or wishing."

He's got 12 offers at this point. We have to start seriously considering the ones that have already offered.

"If Clemson wants him, they'll try to get him. If they don't, we understand."

Last month's trip to Tigertown did go well, though.

"It was a real good environment. The facilities were top notch. The environment, the coaches seemed pretty genuine," Otis said.

Up next are trips to Virginia and LSU, but no dates have been set. There are plans to hit at least one camp this summer, but where, that is yet to be determined.

"He's going to take some official visits next year. Then we'll start narrowing it down," Otis said.

There are several criteria that will be evaluated with each school.

"We're going to be looking at graduation success rate. How he fits into the program. The environment, quality of the school—those type things," Otis said.

As a junior, Otis had 109 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and four forced fumbles.

His main recruiter at Clemson is defensive backs coach Charlie Harbison. Top Stories
