TE Eric MacLain Profile
Jack Britt (Fayetteville, N.C.) tight end Eric MacLain drove down to Clemson Saturday morning to drop some good news on the Tigers' coaching staff.
"We're here. I'm at Clemson right now. I'm eating lunch with the coaches," MacLain told CUTigers shortly after committing Saturday afternoon.
"I previously told coach (Dan) Brooks that we were going to come down. We were all standing in the room. Coach Dabo (Swinney) had given me this chip that said, ‘I'm all in.' I just handed it to me and said, ‘Coach, I'm all in.' He was just jumping up and down, excited. That was a good time. It was fun."
Not long after ending his visit last weekend, MacLain said he knew Clemson was the place he wanted to be.
"I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't just a reactionary thing," he said. "I wanted to sleep on it for about a week, or so. I'd be in school, have my mind on other things. I still wanted to see if I wanted to come to Clemson."
The former Tennessee commit chose Clemson over a host of other schools that have already offered.
Auburn, Arkansas, Duke, Georgia Tech, Maryland, NC State, North Carolina, Penn State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia all offered, in addition to the Tigers' and Volunteers' offers.
Several aspects made Clemson stand out over the rest.
"The family feeling is pretty incredible here. Going to school with a couple of the guys—Dwayne Allen and Miguel Chavis. I really know a lot of people on the team. It feels like a family," MacLain said. "There's the opportunity to step in right away and play, while being helped by one of the greatest tight ends in the nation. I think that's just a good opportunity."
The MacLain family plans to stick around Tigertown for most of the day, enjoying their new home.
"We're going to celebrate today and leave later on tonight," he said.
Last season, MacLain caught eight passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns. As a defensive lineman, he registered 43 tackles, including 11 for a loss and four sacks, and two forced fumbles.
