Dukes Hitting the Weights Hard

CUTigers.com caught up with Marion Dukes Saturday afternoon as he took in the first spring practice of the 2003 season on the practice fields behind the Jervey Athletic Center. Hear what the Pickens' star had to say about the upcoming season in this report.

Just like a lot of the players in the 2003 recruiting class, Pickens' offensive lineman Marion Dukes is ready to hit the practice fields this fall.

"I'm looking forward to getting up here- no doubt," said Dukes after taking in Saturday's spring practice.

"I've been hitting the weights and everything, I've got a big book that they sent me that contains everything I'm supposed to be doing right now, and I can tell you- it's rough," added Dukes.

Marion is projected to play as a tackle on the offensive line, and he's coming in with the mindset that he could see playing time as early as next season.

"I think I could. The coaches have told me that if I can come in and work hard that I'll have the chance to play early, so I think I can but we'll see."

Dukes and Greenwood placekicker Jad Dean were the lone two 2003 signees that took in Saturday's practice, although QB C.J. Gaddis tried to make it down.

"C.J. really wanted to come," said Dean. "But that's a long drive to make (5 hours) from North Carolina. I think he's coming down soon though. I think he's staying with me in the next couple of weeks and we are going to come up for a practice or two."
